Threshold To Maine Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area 2009 Results Summary
The Threshold To Maine Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area works in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to improve the ability of communities in York, Cumberland, Oxford, and Franklin counties to balance natural resource use with conservation. This is accomplished by focusing on social, economic, and environmental activities identified, designed, and implemented by local people. This year the Council worked more directly with sponsors on identifying issues and projects in the region and provided assistance on those projects where a role for RC&D was identified. New initiatives were also identified as a result of work on agriculture development in the region including selection as a pilot site for a NASA solutions network project.
In FY 2009, the Council worked on the following projects: Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association Commercial Kitchen funding, Strong “Harness the Wealth” project, Alternative Energy workshops, assistance to individual farms and organizations on development and resource identification, Parson Smith Agriculture Development, Town of Rumford Agriculture Commission and Shared Use Commercial Kitchen, and Agro forestry Workshops in the region. Threshold To Maine maintains its own web site where additional information can be obtained. That information can be reached at www.thresholdtomaine.org
The following table illustrates the leverage that federal resources, supporting Threshold To Maine, have for the counties and communities served.
