Threshold To Maine Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area

2007 Results Summary

The Threshold To Maine Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area works in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to improve the ability of communities in York, Cumberland, Oxford, and Franklin counties to balance natural resource use with conservation.  This is accomplished by focusing on social, economic, and environmental activities identified, designed, and implemented by local people.  This year our major efforts included coordinating a state wide coalition of organizations and communities interested in establishing shared use commercial kitchens, helping a number of groups develop their strategic plans, and working with 6 individuals to create or update their business plans.

In FY 2007, the Council worked on the following projects: Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association Commercial Kitchen funding, Strong “Harness the Wealth” project, Northern Forestland Community Capacity Building, Mountain Counties Heritage Network Mountain Made Promotion Program, Windham Agriculture Development Project, Town of Rumford Agriculture Commission, Agroforestry Workshops in Wells, Alternative Energy Initiative – Corn Stoves, business planning assistance for 3 farms, and community capacity building work.  Threshold To Maine maintains its own web site, which contains information on who we are, what is being worked on, and the major initiatives that are currently underway.  That information can be reached at www.thresholdtomaine.org

The following table illustrates the leverage that federal resources, supporting Threshold To Maine, have for the counties and communities served.
